My first blog for December... For the past few days, Life has been pretty much OK... My family keep telling me Grandma's fine and OK, but uncertain about her condition... I went to watch a movie on Friday night. I wasn't very enthusiastic at first because (a) I'm going to be broke (b) its a Thai movie. But apparently, it has English subtitles so I need not worry about not understanding what's going on and (c) my grandma's in hospital and I'm out watching a movie. Initially, it was me & 2M going together. but, 2 had something on and pulled out, so me and M went together.
The movie that we watched was a Thai movie called Ponglong Ama. It's a comedy about this guy who is ugly mean, and everything that is bad. let's just refer to him as the Guy. He has the ability to see ghosts and has an uncle who runs an old haunted movie theater. Hence, he pressures his uncle to sell his theater. Anyway, he meets this handsome taxi driver (AKA Taxi driver) who was born on the same day and in the same year as him and his life goes haywire. It is a heartwarming story about the Guy who changes from a petty miser to an inspiring ringleader to stop the theater from landing into the greedy hands of the real estate agency that he (the GUY) initially wanted to sell it to. He was guided on by the Taxi Driver - who happens to be a ghost that he (Taxi driver) himself isn't aware of. In any case, this is enough spoilers, I guess. I'm not good at reviewing movies because well.. This is my first time.
In my opinion, this movie is better than other Hollywood comedies like Dodge ball, etc. The jokes are lamer and more crude than Hollywood comedies. But this movie has something that its western counterparts don't - storyline. The director manages to portray the growth of the Guy and added enough twists and turns into the story plot such that even I can't predict what's happening next and I'm usually an accurate predictor. The humor in the movies manages to balance out with the angst and sadness, and even manages to be inspiring.
The movie ends with the Guy saying, "In the end, God does nothing by us. It is we who does something by ourselves." But I think, perhaps, if God didn't intervene, how did the Taxi driver even finad and meet the Guy in the first place? How did the Taxi driver, in his own way, supports and guides the Guy? Therefore, strangely, I'm kinda comforted by the movie, because if there's a God, maybe God won't let my grandma leave us so soon.
"It's a dangerous business, going out your door. You step onto the road and if you don't keep your feet, there's no knowing where it may lead you."
