Lunch Hour

I just realized how long it has been since I last blogged. Ah Sorry, people! Or rather, sorry to whomever who bothers to read this blog. I have been pretty tied up with things at work. No excuse. I know, I know.

Anyway, I noticed a certain issue this week. We had a new buyer coming in to help with Aquarius. WA was, of course, over the moon to have someone to throw more of her work to and it’s a younger (more NORMAL, according to D) guy!

He was here since last week, under training from the previous buyer but now that he (the prev. buyer) left, it was left to him to continue on working. This particular guy, Leo (not his real name but close enough) was a buyer outsourced from another company and I find it strange D and the gang didn’t ask him for lunch with us. I mean, they asked me when I was new to the company. They asked A (who was temporarily replacing P who had gone on 2 weeks leave). They didn’t ask him.

Feeling curious, I asked B.

“Eh… Better not ask him out for lunch with us. He’s not in the same department.”

O_O “ But I’m not in HR either. D & I are in Procurement.”

“Er…. Anything lah. I anything de. You ask R.”

To my disbelief, even uncle R shook his head against asking Leo for lunch with us.

I asked VH and he wasn’t keen on the idea of Leo joining us either. Strange. He was usually the friendliest one out of all of us. As a final resort, I asked D.

“Of course don’t ask him lah. He different company from us leh. U, me and everyone else are Seadrill people. He from NOV. Different case mah.”

… … I wasn’t aware that just because he is from a different company, we are not allowed to have lunch together.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m not interested in him romantically. I just know what it is like to be new and alone. I sympathize with him for having to go lunch by himself. That’s all.

But still, I didn’t know something like this actually occurs in the working world. Is it normal?
