Of students & sports

2 new students came in on yesterday to start their 4 mth long SIP – Zhen Jie and Ruzaini. I cut them some slack yesterday but today, there’s quite a lot to clear. In addition to teaching them about their project, I had them to help clean up and re-organize the entire lab.

I had Zhen Jie be the washer man while I gave Ruzaini the task of making Sodium Hydroxide – Concentrated version. I left him to figure out where to find materials and equipment. After all, I’m leaving soon. It won’t do for me to coddle them at all. Meanwhile I helped Zhen Jie do the washing, which was rather a lot.

When we finished, we set off to find Ruzaini. “I wonder if Ruzaini will get scolded by Elizabeth.” I speculated aloud. Elizabeth was the TSO in charge of the rather large Microbiological lab of which mine was part of.

We found him in the Chemical Preparation lab. “Did you get scolded by Elizabeth?” I asked. He nodded mutely, causing me and Zhen Jie to explode into gales of laughter. Oops, I accidentally ‘sabo-ed’ my junior/student. XD

I also accidentally pranked Zhen Jie once as well. One of our experiment involved fermenting waste wood compose. So we dried the waste wood in the oven. As Zhen Jie spread the waste wood in the oven, Ruzaini tried to scare me.

“Who knows, there might be something creeping in the wood~~” He whispered in a creepy voice. Pseudo-innocently, I said, “What? Earthworm?”

Zhen Jie, who obviously hadn’t heard our conversation, paused in his work and said apprenhensively, “Eh? Where?” sending me and Ruzaini into laughter-land.

Of course, I accidentally pranked myself as well. I have to translate the conversation between Shah and Jian Lei, who was a china student. “Jian Lei’s a student in the degree of Biotechnology, specializing in Fertilisation” I had said when the correct field was Fermentation. =X Zhen Jie and Ruzaini and promptly started howling with laughing and I was not far behind. XD

Hehe, I actually did nothing much in the lab today, merely supervised. I.e: i asked them to do all the work and i just sat there shaking my legs. Hey, I'm just doing what my boss told me~ X-3 The best part is, Zhen Jie and Ruizaini have to obey all my instructions because (a) I'm still the TSO of the lab, (b) I'm older (c) I'm a staff.

God, It's good to be the boss.

Anyway, the main event to end the day was the Inter-School Captain ball competition which even my boss, Mr L, took part in. We were up against Engineering School’s team of TSOs and lecturers. I was late to the whole event because I wasn’t very keen and even tried to back out by giving the excuse I have work (which is true, by the way). Alyssa rectified the situation by handing her handphone to my boss.

“Harlo? The competition starting. Come here now. Leave the work for tomorrow.”

… … If my boss says Jump, I jump. And so I set off for the sports hall. In the 1^st half, I was reluctant to do much but jump around. That is, until one of the engineering lecturers stomped my right foot.

... Did I mention I’m paranoid about my right foot because it sustained a serious injury before? And the arsehole just stomp on it... This means WAR.

In the 1^st half, we lost 1:5. In the 2^nd half, I heck care about pain, injuries and harm to others. It’s WAR, damnnit. I got into the heat of the game and managed to wrestle the ball quite a number of times. Slowly, Applied Science school caught up. We won 11:6.

Muahaha, Of course, most of it is not my credit alone. If there is someone who can take the credit alone, it’ll be Wallace, a chemical engineering lecturer. He managed to throw the ball from one end of the court to another a few times, and each time, he scored a perfect throw. O.O

Still, pity we won’t be up against them next week. I’m looking forward to physically thrash them. Alyssa got hit by them a couple of times as well. I got 3 bruises from them. >=(

I wonder who we are up against next week…
