As usual, I logged on to Hotmail to check my emails and found that I only had 1 email from Nicholas Tan, a fellow oSIP mate of mine. He emailed me about this website, Goody Books, with stories that was written by a local author, Loh Kay Hwa. As a general rule, I tend to delete emails like this without taking a second look at it. This is because I hold a standard for all the books (and fanfiction) I read. And How good can local authors get? That WAS what I thought.
After reading the story - " I believe You", I changed my mind. The grammer and structure of the entire book was distinctly Singaporean. Hence, I won't say that the English is particularly good. But it definitely was better than most 'fanfictions' I read. WAY better, I'm serious. The storyline was good, with twists and turns. But what made me truly love the story was the way the author managed to portray the emotions of the main character in the story. He did it well enough to make me feel for the main character. And trust me, I'm not that emotional type. Do I even have emotions to begin with? And Of course, he also cleverly made use of graphics and music to bring out the emotions in his book.
He stopped the story just before the ending. Smart of him, though I did not particularly like him for it. Now I'm dying to know what happened in the end. -_-
Nevertheless, the story is good enough to make me buy all 4 of his published books. Pity there's one book, Destiny's cries, is put of print. GOD DAMN IT! =(
Here's the trailer for the story: I Believe You.
And for those who wanna read his books, or rather, parts of "I Believe You", here's the link:
